CGP Grey has a good video on England, Britain, Commonwealth, British Isles, etc. Don’t ask me to explain that Venn diagram. It's too complicated.

If they are smart they’ll wait until the next economic downturn and scrap it when the value is high

It was a gift. You can’t take gifts back. Even if you’re French.

Not at all. The Falklands Islanders voted and they chose to remain a U.K. Territory .

90% of the island turned out to vote, which is an amazing feat in itself, 1,517 votes, 1,513 for and three against remaining a U.K. Territory.

The only reason Argentina brought it up again is the same reason they invaded the islands. It was a diversion from all the social and economic troubles going on in the country.

Argentina said they want to talk with Britain about it, Britain said the Falklands must be represented at the table and they are self rule and ul timately the ones to decide, Argentina said they won’t go to the table if the Falklands are there. The E.U., etc... said Britain should go to the table, and it’s all a big circle.

We’re going to build a wall made of Chris Christie’s chins around the gift shop and a certain prominent New Yorker is going to pay for it!

What about?

You have the home nations, then the archipelago, then territories which are British protectorates and then you have realms which are former territories that that are independent.

There are currently 53 members of the commonwealth: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Cameroon, Canada, Cyprus, Dominica, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Kingdom, Vanuatu, Zambia.

It can get confusing which countries fall into what categories for an outsider looking in.

Ahh sounds like a nice mess. All I knew was the part where Argentina kicked the UK ass and showed how much of an impact somewhat modern planes can have on naval forces. But aside from that, it makes sense the current outcome then.

? ‘Argentina kicked the UK ass and showed how much of an impact somewhat modern planes can have on naval forces’.

The Falkland Islands weren’t massively protected because nobody foresaw Argentina invading. The Argentinian forces thought they would be seen as liberators.

But we got our shit together and restored order.

The at the time unproven in war Hawker Siddeley Harrier came into it’s own.

Britain lost 255 personnel during those 74 days against Argentinas 649.

Really interesting elements such as Operation Black Buck 1 - 7, where about a dozen Victor K2 tankers were needed to get a Vulcan bomber each time from the Ascension Islands 3,300 nautical miles to the Falkland Islands.

Also the General Belgrano is the only ship to be sunk by a nuclear submarine in war. The General Belrano was formerly the USS Pheonix which was the only vessel to escape unharmed when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour.

I was only referring to the ships sunk during the conflict. But I was moreso just going off of Wikipedia that I had read a while ago lol. But yes, it makes more sense after reading it a bit more thoroughly now. Interesting stuff.

I just chalk it up to New Jersey’s centuries old inferiority complex that stems from being the buffer zone where New York suburbs turn into Philadelphia suburbs.

And New York has their own Navy, so let’s see Jersey try.
